A Visual Novel Adaptation?!? — Cassie Alexander Studios

When St. Martins cancelled my trad publishing contract on my Nightshifted books (circa late 2013?) I had a fallow period, until a friend at a baby shower said, “You know, someone should make a Find your Own Fantasy Erotica” (not calling it by that Other Well Know and Beloved Childhood Book Name, because the owner of that trademark is very sue-happy).

And me?

I thought, “Yeah. Someone should!”

And so writing The House is how I got my groove back.

It’s very literal a ‘find your own fantasy’ situation — consent forward, full frontal, high, high, high heat. It’s got MF, FMM, FMMMM, FF, FFF, BDSM, public sex, orgies, like, literally EVERYTHING I could think of, plus the kitchen sink.

Some time after that (2015? 16?) I turned it into a Twine game (a simple text interface) and uploaded it to Itch.io to host it. (Perhaps, after making that work, I should’ve known that in my little nerdy heart, I always wanted to be a coder, HA.)

I never marketed it, but it made a few hundred bucks, and it was a fun experiment, which I didn’t think about again until two things:

A) my friend Jake was looking for erotic podcast ideas (it being an underserved market, overall) — and I gave him The House for his podcast Choose —

Which is where people vote on which path the protagonist takes next, lovingly narrated by AI! And reminded me that I have this book in general…

AND

B) Ambien Cassie (the most truthful of ALL THE CASSIES — and I stg I have never regretted a decision Ambien Cassie has made, she’s how I found my tattoo artist!) had the idea to ask Jack about qbits.

The idea for a visual novel was set and sold.

AND?

While I want to do my TV show Kickstarter/idea in a few months, video gen is jumping forward so hard I’m afraid to get locked into a style only to find out I should’ve waited a little bit longer!

Plus, tbh, I need to get more practice at all my video/audio creation skills…

But doing THIS will allow me to practice AND make money on my practice, along the way!

So — this morning I registered on Steam as a Game Dev :D.

It only cost $100 (so any of you all could absolutely DO THIS AS WELL) and they refund that to you once you hit $1000 in sales!

And then I set to with Jack and made a To Do list of all the things I need to get rolling to make this game possible!

Starting with this, here:

And then I uploaded my old twine program (which, miracle of miracles, I HAD) and now Jack and I are working on going through the scenes and creating the structure, ‘cause once that’s nailed, then I’ll know precisely what assets and ambient sounds and videos I need to make and….

I’ll actually be Cassie Alexander Studios.

AND THAT MUCH CLOSER TO ACHIEVING MY DREAMS.

Without Ambien, even, LOL.
