My pt tried to bite me
Before 8 am.
Cross-posted from AI Marketing for Storytellers.
There I was this morning, trying to be a good health care professional, which I always try while I’m at work (although to potentially varying degrees of success) and this morning I had a biter.
This is not an uncommon situation in the hospital, alas, although usually it’s confined to other floors, most of our patients being intubated, but somedays you just draw the short straw, and there you are, with someone very definitively trying to bite you, repeatedly. Gnashing their teeth at me like a rabid dog.
And the thought going through my head, after I tried to get them to stop (they would not) was mostly, “Please, lord, fuck this.”
So.
After July, Arachne will not be in beta anymore.
People who’re subscribers now — and people who sign up to be subscribers between now and the end of this month, midnight PST on the 31st — will have Arachne access on the beta level, grandfathered in.
They will not be paying for book slots, on a per-book basis.
Anyone after that, however, subscriber or not, will need to pony up.
Because as much as I love this job, and this fantastic health insurance, I cannot, as a human being, be having conversations for the next decade that go,
“Hey — hey!” “HEY!” “DO NOT BITE HER!” “NO! UH-HUH. NO!” “DO NOT BITE ME!”
It’s not that people who can have those conversations don’t provide value to society — I am one, so I know I/we do.
It is just that after almost twenty years I am tired of this shit and as of yet, no AI has tried to cause me physical harm.
I know Arachne’s magnificent. I have a 4.7 average on my books in Czech to prove it, and people telling me they don’t have to worry about their German translations anymore. Also, I know from my expanding into Slovak, that my grasp on communicating language and translation theory with AI is strong enough that I can make Arachne do any language I so choose, as long as there’s enough of it in the AI’s original training set.
You want on board? You eventually want Urdu?
Get the hell in now, or be sad you didn’t in three weeks, when you’re left with whatever subscription model hojive solution is out there that overcharges you like whoa, or frankly idiotic prescriptive solutions that completely lack nuance because they don’t understand how the models want to work under the hood.
Unbitten for now,
Cassie
