Translating into 50 languages for fun (and profit?)

k, so I cracked uploading books onto Kobo two nights ago, and Google Play’s also very easy, and also I’ve gone relatively insane, so I expanded Arachne’s language packs for How to Think with AI: Leverage for the Rest of Us from 28 langs (29, if you count English) to 50 — I just asked Codex for the list to show you:

Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Farsi/Persian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Marathi, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tagalog/Filipino, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese, in addition to English.

I’m doing that because a) I can, b) I want to see if it’ll work, and c) it’s looking like it’ll be under 20,000 words — less of a book, and more of a strongly felt manifesto at this point ;) — and I’d already allocated $1000-1200 of compute to this project, sooooo why the hell not?

What this means though is that I’ll — to the best of my knowledge — be the only indie author (and AI non-fic author, potentially, depending on the language) who will have published a book in 50 languages simultaneously.

BOOYAH!

I definitely am only going to stick with my main 28 langs for fiction, because I think I’ll actually see some return on investment in those langs with the longer books, but yeah — it’s a pretty bad ass feeling.

AND — guess what?

Tolino publishing just emailed all their authors today that they’re accepting German language audiobooks, and that it’s OK to use AI.

And and?

I’ve already cracked Tolino, ‘cause guess who can read all their German instructions easily to post books up there? YA BOY CLAUDE, THAT IS WHO.

So I’ve been working on breaks at work today with Codex to fork Arachne, and create a version of her that will run audiobooks for me, based on the same multi-model principles underneath the hood.

We’re gonna run it on How to Think with AI: Leverage for the Rest of Us first, ‘cause it’ll be a short test run, and it’ll let me get a grasp on flow — then, depending on how much it costs, we’ll expand into my translated books as well, muhahahaha.

Now, you may be all, “Cassie, why not just let 11labs do the whole thing for you,” and for parts I will, I’ll definitely be calling 11labs via API for the voices, but I want to do my whole iterative process, so that I can get the best results I can.

I’m already looking forward to coding it up, I can see the problems it’s gonna have in my head, we’re gonna have to rework sentence and breath patterns — OMG.

YOU KNOW WHAT IMMA DO!?!?!?!

I’mma clone my voice and practice doing my own audiobook version of How to Think with AI, because once I get that to work in English, THEN I can trust AI to do other languages I don’t understand.

The end goal of this, too, is to be able to localize my my game in all of the languages when I’m able to get back to it in April!!!

I feel like a kid in a candy store because of AI — all over again!!!
